Healthmap's Genetic Expert
Dr Steve Myers
G’day everyone, I am Steve.
My background is in biochemistry and genetics of metabolic disease. I have been working in this field for over 20 years now. I completed my PhD in 2004 from the Queensland University of Technology. I was very fortunate to receive a prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council “Dora Lush” postgraduate scholarship to study hormones and cancer. I then moved to the University of Queensland, to pursue a career in the genetics of metabolic disease, with a particular focus on type 2 diabetes and obesity.
I spend my day writing papers, teaching biochemistry and genetics and looking after my own PhD students. I have published over 60 research papers in highly respected scientific journals. My other research interests include the “nutrigenomics” of disease processes, that is, the relationship between food and the risk of disease based on changes in gene structure and function (genetics). I love to surf, play the guitar, paint seascape art and speak Bahasa Indonesian. I can help you with your genetic questions so don't hesitate to contact us if you have a query.
